State of Law Coalition led by Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Al Maliki is slightly ahead of other coalitions, according to preliminary results of Iraqi Parliamentary elections. Al Iraqiya List led by former Prime Minister Iyad Allawi confirms for its part the lead in number of Parliament seats. Independent High Electoral Commission announced that it has counted 89% of polling centers including 70% of special voting.
AFP figures show Al Maliki’s Coalition with 452.448.2 votes compared with 547.408.2 votes for Allawi’s List. Following these figures, Al Maliki is ahead by a difference of 40 000 votes. Accordingly, Al Maliki is expected to rally 91 seats in Parliament, Al Iraqiya: 86 seats, National Alliance: 67 seats, Kurdistan Alliance: 39 seats, Accordance Front: 9 seats, Iraq’s Unity Coalition: 3 seats, Change List: 9 seats, Kurdistan Islamic Union: 5 seats, Kurdistan Islamic Group: 1 seat.
